Window Film Installation Agreement
Last updated · July 30, 2026
This is the agreement between you (the "Client") and Shade Customs ("we", "us"), at 114 E University Ave, Georgetown, TX 78626, covering window film we install on your vehicle. We've written it to be read. If a term here doesn't make sense, ask before you sign it — that's a better outcome for both of us than a disagreement at pickup.
The short version
- You pick the film and the shade. We'll tell you what's legal and what we'd recommend, but the choice is yours, and so is a citation for going darker than Texas allows.
- A deposit holds your slot. Tell us 48 hours ahead and it moves with you; no notice and it doesn't come back.
- Payment is due before the vehicle leaves. Inspect it first — that's what the inspection is for.
- Some dust is physics, not a defect. There's a published standard for what's acceptable and we hold ourselves to it.
- The warranty is lifetime against bubbling, peeling, cracking, fading and purpling, handled here rather than by mail-in.
- If we get something wrong, bring it back. That's the whole warranty in one sentence.
This summary is here so you know what you're agreeing to. The numbered terms below are what actually governs.

Choosing your film and shade#
Our installers will happily tell you which film we'd put on our own car and which shade suits how you drive. The decision is yours. We'll quote what you ask for and install what you approve.
Once film has been cut for your vehicle it can't go back on the roll. Changing film type or shade after cutting begins is a new material cost, and it's billed on top of the original quote.
- VLT
- Visible light transmission — how much light gets through, film and glass together. Lower is darker. This is the number Texas regulates.
- AS-1 line
- The marking near the top of your windshield that sets the boundary for windshield film. Where there's no marking, the rule falls back to the top five inches.
- Curing
- The period after installation while the mounting solution evaporates through the film and the adhesive reaches full bond. Typically 2–3 days in summer, longer in winter.
Quotes, deposits and payment#
Quotes
Prices published on our website and given over the phone are estimates based on what you've told us about the vehicle. The quote becomes firm once we've seen the car. If something changes it — old film that has to come off, damaged glass, an aftermarket window we weren't told about — we tell you the new number and get your approval before we start. We do not add charges at pickup that you haven't already agreed to.
Deposits
A deposit secures your appointment. It comes off the final balance. If you need to move or cancel, tell us at least forty-eight (48) hours before your slot and the deposit moves with you or is returned in full. Inside forty-eight hours, or if the vehicle simply doesn't arrive, the deposit is not refundable — the bay was held and the day can't be re-sold at that notice.
Payment
We invoice at or before completion, and the balance is due before the vehicle is released. We accept cash, approved debit and credit cards, and any other method we've agreed to in writing. An unpaid or overdue balance may suspend work on the vehicle and delay its release.
Inspection, release and refunds#
Before you pay and take the keys, look the car over with us. Walk each window. Ask about anything you're unsure of. This is the moment to raise it, and we'd far rather spend ten minutes at the counter than have you drive away unhappy.
- 01We walk the vehicle with you and point out anything you should expect during curing.
- 02You inspect the work against the standard in section 4.
- 03You settle the balance and we release the vehicle.
- 04Anything that appears — or fails to clear — during the curing window is handled under section 4 or the warranty in section 5.
If you collect the vehicle outside our normal hours or without walking it with us, payment stands as your acknowledgement that the work looked right at collection. It does not waive the curing standard or the warranty, and it never has to.
Refunds
Once film has been cut or installation has begun, the job is not refundable — the material is consumed and the labour is spent. What you get instead is a remedy: if the installation doesn't meet the standard in section 4, we re-do the affected glass at our cost, as many times as it takes to get it right. If we conclude we can't get a particular panel right, we'll say so plainly and refund that portion rather than keep trying.
What a finished installation looks like#
Window film is applied to glass in open air, in a building with doors that open. A perfectly contamination-free installation is not achievable in any shop, at any price, and anyone claiming otherwise is describing marketing rather than physics. What is achievable is a published, testable standard — so here is the one we work to.
During the 30–60 day curing period, the following are normal and are not grounds for re-work, provided they are unobtrusive at the viewing standard above:
- Small dust or lint particles trapped at installation. They do not affect adhesion, performance or the film's life.
- Fine hairs or fibres, for the same reason.
- Light haze, cloudiness or small water pockets. This is the mounting solution evaporating through the film and it clears on its own.
- Minor air bubbles that are shrinking rather than spreading.
- Very slight optical distortion where the film follows curved glass.
- Small creases at an extreme edge on deeply curved panels, where the film had to be shrunk to shape.
The following are not normal at any point, and we will correct them:
- Bubbles that spread, grow or persist beyond the curing window.
- Film lifting at an edge, or peeling anywhere.
- Contamination that is obvious at six feet in daylight.
- Film cut short of the edge, or cut into a gasket.
- Scratches, scores or tears present at collection.
Warranty#
Film we install carries the manufacturer's warranty, and we handle claims here at the shop rather than sending you to a mail-in process. The warranty runs to the original purchaser and the original vehicle. It is not transferable when the vehicle is sold.
| Covered | Not covered |
|---|---|
| Bubbling and delamination | Scratches, nicks and tears after collection |
| Peeling and lifting edges | Damage from seat belts striking the glass |
| Cracking | Abrasion from worn door gaskets or window channels |
| Adhesive failure | Damage from faulty window regulators or motors |
| Colour change and purpling | Cleaning with ammonia or abrasive products |
| Excessive fading | Anything stuck to the film — see section 6 |
Where a claim is valid, we replace the affected film at no cost to you. If the original product is no longer manufactured, we supply a comparable or better film in its place. HiTek Ceramic IR and the rest of our lineup are lifetime, professionally installed.
Fading is measured against the film's original specification. A small change over many years is expected of any polyester film in Texas sun; a change beyond the manufacturer's published tolerance is a warranty matter. Purpling — the violet colour cheap dyed film turns — is a defect at any level, and it is covered.
Windshield film#
A windshield is the largest, flattest and most visible piece of glass on the vehicle, and it is the panel where the terms below actually matter. Read this section if we're doing yours.
Contamination and micro-creases
A windshield takes a single large piece of film that has to be handled, shrunk and laid in one movement. Reasonable precautions are taken, and a completely contamination-free result still cannot be guaranteed. Fine micro-creases from handling a sheet that size are possible; they do not affect performance or the film's life and are assessed at the same six-foot viewing standard as everything else.
Water and electronics
Installation uses a water-based mounting solution. We mask and protect the dashboard, the A-pillars and any exposed electronics, and despite that, moisture can reach components behind the dash on some vehicles. By having windshield film installed you accept that risk. We are not responsible for repairs to electronic components arising from it. If your vehicle has known sensitivity here — some do — tell us and we'll discuss whether to proceed at all.
Nothing gets stuck to the film
Curing
Moisture trapped between film and glass is normal and will evaporate as the adhesive cures. Expect several days in summer and up to a few weeks in cold or humid weather. A windshield is the slowest panel on the car to clear because it is the largest.
Tint removal#
Removing old film is skilled work performed with steam and adhesive solvents. We do not use blades on rear glass. Even done properly, removal carries risks that come from the condition of the vehicle rather than the technique:
- Rear defroster grids are printed on the same inside surface the film is bonded to. Age, prior damage and poor original installation can leave a line lifting despite careful steam work.
- Antenna elements printed into rear or side glass carry the same risk.
- Glass that is already chipped, cracked or stress-marked can propagate under the heat used for removal.
- Adhesive from very old or heat-cycled film can leave residue requiring extended solvent work.
By authorising removal you accept these risks and release us from liability for damage arising from the pre-existing condition of the glass, its printed elements or previous work. This is not a release for our own negligence — if we damage your car through carelessness, that's ours and we'll own it.
Your vehicle and your belongings#
Installation requires access to the inside of every window being filmed, and on door glass it requires lowering the window and working at the top of the door card.
- Please remove valuables, loose items and anything on the parcel shelf or rear deck before you drop the vehicle off. We are not responsible for personal property left in a vehicle.
- Tell us about aftermarket glass, prior body or glass work, non-functioning window regulators, or anything already loose or damaged. We'll note it on the ticket before we start.
- We note existing damage at intake. If you disagree with a note, say so at the counter and we'll walk it with you.
- Vehicles are left at the owner's risk while in our care. Our liability is limited to the value of the services performed, except where Texas law provides otherwise.
Card on file#
Where you ask us to hold a card for convenience, you authorise us to store it securely and to charge it for the balance of the work you've approved. We do not store full card details on our own systems — they're held by our payment processor.
- We charge only for work you have approved. Nothing is charged speculatively.
- You can have the card removed at any time by asking us in writing, including by email. We'll confirm when it's done.
- Authorisation to hold a card is not authorisation for recurring billing. There is no subscription here.
Photographs of your vehicle#
We photograph finished work for our gallery and social accounts. Photographs are of the vehicle, not of you, and we crop or blur plates as a matter of course.
If you'd rather your car wasn't photographed, say so at the counter and it won't be. If a photograph has already been posted and you want it taken down, tell us and we'll remove it. Neither costs you anything and neither needs a reason.
Licensing, compliance and disputes#
We hold the licences required to perform this work and we perform it in compliance with applicable federal, state and local law, including Texas motor vehicle window tint regulations.
This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Texas, and Williamson County is the venue for any dispute arising from it.
