Infrared is not measured the same way by every manufacturer. HiTek Carbon IR: broad range, 780–2500nm. HiTek Ceramic IR: broad range, 740–2500nm. SunTek Evolve: selective (SIRR), 780–2500nm. A selective (SIRR) reading always comes out higher than a broad-range one on the same piece of film, so compare total solar heat if you want one number that means the same thing across all three. Front side windows must let in more than 25% of light; back sides and the rear window can be any darkness — 5% included, if that's the look you're after — and the windshield can take a 5-inch strip up top. We install to these limits up front by default, but it's your call: ask for darker and we'll put it on, medical exemption or not.
Most cars are done same day, about 2 to 3 hours for a full vehicle. Drop off in the morning, out by 5:30.
At the same darkness ceramic blocks far more heat, and the gap widens as the film gets lighter. On the legal 35% front sides, HiTek Ceramic IR rejects about 73% of infrared to Carbon IR's 42%. Carbon is the value pick, holds its colour and never purples. Same lifetime warranty on both.
HiTek and SunTek. Carbon is HiTek Carbon IR, Ceramic is HiTek Ceramic IR, and Ceramic XR is SunTek Evolve — their top ceramic, up to 94% infrared rejection. All three are non-metallic, so nothing interferes with your phone, GPS or toll tag.
Often it's the better call. Heat rejection comes from the film, not from the darkness: SunTek Evolve at 70% looks close to bare glass and still rejects more heat than a 5% carbon, and every film we carry blocks 99% of UV at any shade. So if night driving is already harder than it used to be — coming back into Sun City after dark, say — going light is the right answer rather than a compromise. You get the sun off your arm and the fade off your dash without giving up anything after sunset. Tell us that's the goal and we'll put you on a light ceramic instead of talking you into 20%.
