Window Tinting
Georgetown, TX

We're not a franchise with a Georgetown landing page and a bay somewhere else. The shop is at 114 E University Ave, on University Ave, and every car we tint is cut and cured in that building.

The short answer

Shade Customs is the window tint shop in Georgetown, Texas, at 114 E University Ave, Georgetown, TX 78626. We install ceramic and carbon automotive window film, residential and commercial window film, and we remove old failing tint — all cut and cured in-house at one address on University Ave, not dispatched from Austin. A full car runs $249 to $649 depending on film, front two windows start at $129, and every price is published rather than quoted on request. Texas requires front side windows to pass more than 25% of light, and we measure the finished glass to make sure yours does. Monday–Saturday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM. (512) 744-8271.

01 / Why it matters who's local

The shop is here

Search “window tint Georgetown” and most of what comes back is somewhere else — Austin, Pflugerville, a number that dispatches a van. There is nothing wrong with any of them, but they are not a Georgetown shop, and the difference shows up on the day something needs looking at again.

  • One address, and it's this one

114 E University Ave, Georgetown, TX 78626. Not a dispatch number, not a van that comes to you from Austin, not a franchise with a Georgetown landing page and a Pflugerville bay. The film is cut and cured in a building you can drive to, and the person who installed it is there tomorrow if something isn't right.

  • Warranty you can walk into

Every film we install carries a lifetime warranty, and claims are handled here rather than by a mail-in process with a manufacturer. If an edge lifts in eighteen months you bring the car back to the same bay. That is a materially different promise from a shop an hour away.

  • We know what Texas asks for

Front side windows have to pass more than 25% of light, film and factory glass together. We measure the finished glass rather than trusting the film's rating, because a 35% film on 78% factory glass reads closer to 27% on a meter — and the meter is what a trooper uses.

  • Out by 5:30

Most full cars take two to three hours. Drop it in the morning, drive it home the same day. Monday–Saturday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM, closed Sunday — and on Saturdays it's worth calling ahead, because that's the busy one.

What it costs

Every vehicle class against every film, published. Darkness never changes the price — the same film costs the same at 5% and at 70%. Vehicle size only counts on packages that include rear glass, because that's the only place there's genuinely more of it.

Same-visit rates, charged when we're installing new film on the same glass. Removal on its own is quoted after we've seen the film — two-year-old film off a garage-kept sedan and fifteen-year-old film baked onto a work truck are different days of work, and quoting that blind would be a number neither of us could trust.

Where our cars come from

Georgetown isn't one kind of driver, and the right film genuinely differs by where in town the car spends its day.

  • The Square & downtown

Two minutes west of the shop on the same road. University Ave runs straight into the historic courthouse square, so downtown drop-offs are the easiest job we take — leave the car, walk to breakfast, come back to it.

  • Sun City

Northwest of town off Williams Drive. More of our light-shade work comes from Sun City than anywhere else in Georgetown, and for a good reason: older eyes scatter more light, and dark film genuinely makes night driving harder. A 70% ceramic is usually the right answer there, not a 20%.

  • Wolf Ranch & the I-35 corridor

The stretch of glass that bakes. Cars parked at Wolf Ranch Town Center sit in open lot sun all afternoon with no shade structure, which is the single most common reason someone from this side of town calls us about heat rather than looks.

  • Berry Creek & Lake Georgetown

North and west, out past the golf course. Longer driveways, more cars parked outside overnight, and a lot of trucks — which means windshield strips and rear sliders more often than the town average.

  • Teravista & the south side

Down toward the Round Rock line. Commuters, mostly, sitting on I-35 with the afternoon sun on the driver's window — the exact case where ceramic earns the difference over carbon.

  • Southwestern University & the east side

Just north of University Ave, minutes from the bay. Student cars, older vehicles, and a steady run of purple film coming off cars that were tinted cheap somewhere else years ago.

What Texas allows

Texas window tint limits by window, applicable in Georgetown
WindowLimitWhat it means
Front sidesMore than 25% VLTFilm and factory glass measured together, not the film alone
Back sidesAny darknessNo limit in Texas
Rear windowAny darknessRequires both side mirrors on the vehicle
WindshieldAbove the AS-1 lineOr the top five inches where there's no AS-1 marking

Georgetown has no separate city tint ordinance — state law is the whole rule. The part that catches people is that the limit is measured on the finished glass: your factory glass already blocks some light before any film goes on, so a 35% film on 78% glass reads closer to 27% on a meter. We measure rather than assume, because the meter is what a trooper uses. This is general information, not legal advice.

06 / Georgetown questions

Frequently asked questions

Where is your window tint shop in Georgetown?

114 E University Ave, Georgetown, TX 78626 — on University Ave, which is TX-29, a couple of minutes east of the courthouse square. It's the only location; there's no second branch and no mobile van. Park in front of the bay. (512) 744-8271.

How much does window tinting cost in Georgetown, TX?

A full car runs $249 in carbon film, $449 in ceramic and $649 in Ceramic XR at the sedan baseline. Front two windows only start at $129 and are flat across every vehicle. All 72 combinations of vehicle, film and coverage are published on our pricing page — there is no quote-to-find-out.

What tint is legal in Georgetown, Texas?

Georgetown follows Texas state law, not a city ordinance — front side windows must let more than 25% of visible light through, measured with the factory glass included. Back sides and the rear window can be any darkness — 5% is a common request — as long as the car has both side mirrors. Windshields take film above the AS-1 line only. A signed medical exemption from a physician or optometrist allows darker fronts; without one, we'll still install darker up front if that's what you want. That's your decision to make, and any citation that follows is yours too.

How long does window tinting take?

A full car is two to three hours; front two windows is about an hour. Most people drop the car in the morning and collect it the same afternoon. Add time if old film has to come off first — that's a separate job before any new film goes on.

Do you tint homes and businesses in Georgetown?

Yes — residential and commercial film across Georgetown and Williamson County. That work is quoted after we measure on site, because glass area, pane type and access move the number too much for a published rate to be honest. The estimate is free.

Which film should I get for a car that parks outside in Georgetown?

Ceramic. At the 35% shade Texas requires on the front windows, ceramic rejects about 73% of infrared against carbon's roughly 42% — and 35% is exactly where carbon has given up most of its heat performance. If the car lives in a garage and you're buying the look, carbon is honest money.

Can you remove old purple tint?

Yes, and it's a good share of what we do. Purple film is dyed film whose dye has broken down under UV; the colour doesn't come back, so it has to come off and be replaced. We steam rear glass rather than blading it, because the defroster grid is printed on the same surface the film is stuck to and a blade takes those lines off permanently.

Do I need an appointment?

Walk-ins are welcome during shop hours and we'll fit you in when we can, but booking means the film for your car is on the shelf and the bay is yours. Call (512) 744-8271 or use the booking form.
